Dan has been an occasional loser in The Washington Post's Style Invitational, a weekly (some would say weakly) creative contest.

As far as religion goes, Dan is a Red Sox fan, with all that entails: poetry and a scrapbook and even a multimedia tribute to the team.

Dan and Ilana are both elected members of the Watertown Democratic Town Committee.
