Dan is a Senior Consultant at , an economic forecasting firm, where he develops internal web-based tools and packages data. Past jobs have been at:

Dan is married to Ilana Mainelli. They have one son, Teddy. Other kin include:

• father Aaron, programmer, trainer and artist
• mother Ruth, who retired from MIT in 2003 after a Hall of Fame career running their science and engineering libraries, and later serving as the libraries' Communications Coordinator
• brother Josh is the Executive Director of the Center for Information Therapy, an innovative non-profit organization dedicated to “the prescription of the right information to the right person at the right time to help people make wise health decisions”
• sister-in-law Jocelyn Guyer is at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute in Washington, DC

Also on this site are some chess problems from actual games Dan played many years ago -- surprisingly, the rules of chess haven't changed since then.

Another hobby is crosswords -- mostly solving, but Dan wrote a couple that were published several years back.

Dan is an occasional loser in The Washington Post's Style Invitational, a weekly (some would say weakly) creative contest.

As far as religion goes, Dan is a Red Sox fan, with all that entails: poetry and a scrapbook and even a multimedia tribute to the team.

Dan and Ilana are both elected members of the Watertown Democratic Town Committee.
